Application
Hand held stoneblowing (HHSB) is basically an automated form of the old fashioned but effective method of measured shovel packing, i.e. the method of restoring longitudinal track geometry. The equipment utilises a lightweight compressor and results in a system that is both portable and more advanced than previous HHSB methods. The system is particularly suited to S & C maintenance, especially around switch toes and crossing areas.

• Treatment generally lasts at least twice as long as manual tamping
• Suitable for use in bad ballast conditions
• Obviates potential ’white finger’ problems of hand-held vibrating equipment
• Can be applied from a single sleeper side or end – enabling adequate track packing to be achieved, despite sleepers being obstructed by signalling equipment, interlacing with other sleepers etc
• Does not damage ballast to the same extent as conventional compaction methods
• Lightweight and portable equipment
